Chauffez vert, which helped replace central oil or propane heating, ended on March 31, 2026, and no new applications are accepted. To convert today, the main remaining aid is Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert for an eligible heat pump, combined with Rénoclimat for insulation.
Legal reminder: in Quebec, since December 31, 2023, installing, replacing or doing a major repair on an oil heating appliance is prohibited. If your furnace fails, converting becomes mandatory.
Remaining aid
- LogisVert (Hydro-Québec): heat pumps, geothermal, heat storage. See our LogisVert guide.
- Rénoclimat (Quebec): insulation, air sealing, doors and windows. See Rénoclimat 2026.
The federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program is no longer taking new registrations in 2026.
Conversion steps
- Assess the house: insulation, electrical service, heat distribution.
- Choose the system: central or ductless heat pump, geothermal, or baseboards with heat storage.
- Remove the oil tank to standards, by a qualified professional.
- Upgrade the electrical service if needed, by a master electrician.
